Question 1

Who needs to fill out TD1NS?

TD1NS is the Nova Scotia Personal Tax Credits Return. You fill it out if you work in Nova Scotia, or receive a pension and live there, and you're starting a new job or your situation has changed. Your employer uses it with your federal TD1 to work out how much Nova Scotia income tax to deduct from each pay.

Frequently asked questions

What is the 2026 Nova Scotia basic personal amount?

$11,932. Every person employed in Nova Scotia, and every pensioner living there, can claim it on line 1 of TD1NS.

Do I need to fill out TD1NS?

You need it if your federal total claim (line 13 of the TD1) is more than $16,452, or if you claim any Nova Scotia amount besides the basic one. If you don't fill it out, your employer deducts Nova Scotia tax using only the basic personal amount.

Who do I give TD1NS to?

Your employer or payer, along with your federal TD1. Don't send it to the CRA. Keep a copy for yourself.

Can I claim the basic amount with two employers?

No. Claim your credits with one employer only. On the other TD1s, tick the “more than one employer” box and enter 0 as your total.

Is it safe to enter my SIN here?
