Who needs to fill out TD1BC?
TD1BC is the British Columbia Personal Tax Credits Return. You fill it out if you work in British Columbia, or receive a pension and live there, and you're starting a new job or your situation has changed. Your employer uses it with your federal TD1 to work out how much B.C. income tax to deduct from each pay.
What's new and specific to TD1BC for 2026
- The 2026 B.C. basic personal amount is $13,216, up from $12,932 in 2025.
- TD1BC still has a tuition line (line 4). Enter the tuition fees you'll pay in 2026 if you're a student.
- The British Columbia caregiver amount on line 8 is worked out on Form TD1BC-WS, because it depends on the dependant's income.

Common mistakes
- Claiming the basic personal amount with two employers at the same time. You can only claim your credits once. On the second job, tick the “more than one employer” box and enter 0, or you'll owe tax in April.
- Using the spouse's gross pay instead of their net income for the spouse amount.
- Keeping an old TD1 after your situation changes. Fill out a new one when you get a new dependant, separate, turn 65 or start a pension.
- Forgetting the provincial form. If you only hand in the federal TD1, your employer uses the provincial basic amount and nothing else.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 2026 B.C. basic personal amount?
$13,216. Every person employed in British Columbia, and every pensioner living there, can claim it on line 1 of TD1BC.
Do I need to fill out TD1BC?
You need it if your federal total claim (line 13 of the TD1) is more than $16,452, or if you claim any B.C. amount besides the basic one. If you don't fill it out, your employer deducts B.C. tax using only the basic personal amount.
Who do I give TD1BC to?
Your employer or payer, along with your federal TD1. Don't send it to the CRA. Keep a copy for yourself.
Can I claim the basic amount with two employers?
No. Claim your credits with one employer only. On the other TD1s, tick the “more than one employer” box and enter 0 as your total.
