TD1 for employers: what to give new hires

Every new employee owes you a federal TD1 and usually a provincial one. Easy TD1 lets them do both in a few minutes from their phone, and email you the signed official CRA forms.

Want it done for you? Answer a few questions and get the official CRA forms filled in and signed, free.

What you need from each new hire

If an employee doesn't give you a TD1, deduct tax as if they claim only the basic personal amount.

What to do with the forms

Frequently asked questions

Do employers send TD1 forms to the CRA?

No. Keep them with your payroll records and use them to set tax deductions.

What if a new employee doesn't fill out a TD1?

Deduct tax as if they claim only the basic personal amount, federally and provincially.

Is a TD1 signed on a phone valid?

Easy TD1 adds the employee's drawn signature to the CRA's official PDF. Many employers accept electronically signed TD1s; check your own policy if you require a wet signature.

Does Easy TD1 keep copies of my employees' forms?

No. The forms are filled in the employee's browser and nothing is uploaded or stored.
